Monaco Russia: A new chapter in diplomatic relations
At a high level meeting on the 14 January, between the Foreign Minister of Monaco, Jose Badia, and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, it was confirmed that, as part of the mutual willingness to intensify relations between the two states, Monaco would open a representative office in Russia in the course of this year.
In their discussions, Mr Badia is reported as having told Mr Lavrov, “I would like to highlight several points in our diplomatic relations. This is a development of consular relations. We are opening a new chapter in this regard. The Prince of Monaco is planning to set up Monaco’s representative office in Russia.”
Mr Lavrov welcomed the move and stated that Russia is satisfied with the development of relations with Monaco, sharing its willingness to intensify interaction in the foreign political arena. Mr Lavrov continued, “Our meeting today reflects the mutual desire to deepen co-operation” adding the opening of a representative office “…is in line with the decisions reached during the Prince’s official visit to Russia in October 2012.”
The announcement marks the start of the year of Russia in Monaco with an extensive programme of cultural and artistic events through the year including events to mark the 60 anniversary of the end of World War II.
As part of the Monaco Russia cultural exchange, the Russian Ambassador to Monaco, Mr. Alexander Orlov, will attend the conference on the "The contribution of Russia to the development of European civilization". The conference will take place on Wednesday 21 January at 18.30 at the Hotel Hermitage, Monaco and is organised by the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation.
